Script & Outline

"STRUCTURE, STRUCTURE, STRUCTURE! "

The first draft script was bit too dark and serious and story structure was out of sync, it took too long for the main characters to meet each other.

I'm a heavy believer in 5 Act Structure and we stripped out a lot of moments and boiled it down to the core.

In the process, we priortized the needs and goals of the project. This became the foundation for the film.

Beatboard

"FAIL EARLY AND FAIL OFTEN"

Once we had workable outline, we quickly made beat boards and identified our main characters and villains.

We layed out Iconic moments that we want to see in the film and constantly asked ourselves the fundamental questions:

who's story is it? What does he/she needs to learn?

What are the obstacles, arcs, themes, and message of the movie.

Character Design

I did itinial concpet sketches for the new characters for chracters

and Jin Young Ahn, art director, and Vis dev artists beautifully finished the design package.

When I was designing the characters, I was heavily focusing on design/shape language and symbolism.

(For example, the principal Mr. Kong's head shape was basically a 'STOP' sign. )

STORYBOARD

Once we had overall story figured out,

we storyboarded the movie.

We tried to stay close to the board but wanted to plus as we move forward.

With limited resources and story artist, we had to lay tracks as we go.

As story team was developing the movie,

we built the characters and paid attention to

every little detail.
